Franekeradeel - Frjentsjerteradiel

Franeker had a flag in the early 18th century made up of four alternating yellow and blue stripes, later simplified to just two stripes to avoid confusing with the flag of Leeuwarden. In 1984 Franeker merged with the municipality of Franekeradeel (Frjentsjerteradiel) and apparently the municipal flag is now the only one used: first introduced on 28 November 1962, it features a red five-leaved rose, a yellow bell (alluding to the old nickname of Franeker's inhabitants, “Klokkendieven”, Bell thieves) and a sheaf of wheat, symbolising the farming community.
